Meet Your Care Team

Heidi Back CNM LM
Founder, Certified Nurse Midwife, Licensed Midwife
I have been attending homebirths in the Capitol Region of New York since August of 2022. It is what I am called to do. I am honored every time a family chooses to have me attend their birth and witness the growth of a family. I truly feel blessed to be in this profession and to serve as a midwife. I have extensive experience in many areas since my journey to homebirth was lifelong. I started in birth work by creating a weekly breastfeeding support group at the age of 22 and looking for community. This lead to a certification as a breastfeeding educator. I heard many birth stories, while some were beautiful, others were stories of birth trauma. This motivated me to become a certified birth doula in 2000. I was able to help birth stories become less traumatic and I learned many skills in labor support. I developed a strong desire to decrease birth trauma, advocate for choice in birth, and provide true informed consent. This was difficult as a doula so I made the decision to become a registered nurse. As a nurse, I worked in labor and delivery, pediatrics, special care nursery, and homecare pediatrics. My skills were all put together when I decided to become a midwife. I graduated as a Certified Nurse Midwife in 2018 and accepted my first job at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire, WI. I learned many skills and became more confident as a midwife while working at Mayo, but my heart remained in community birth. I specialize in providing evidence-based midwifery, trauma-informed care, shared decision making, informed consent, and LGBTQIA+ healthcare.

Asiyah Moore
RN, Birth Assistant
My name is Asiyah and I’m a RN from Schenectady, NY. I graduated from Russell Sage with my BSN in 2021 and currently also work in a level 2 NICU at Bellevue Women’s Center where I care for preterm and high risk newborns from birth to discharge. One of my main goals is to gain clinical experience in midwifery in order to pursue my masters degree. With further education, I plan to serve my community with a focus on the Muslim and Black community since maternal and newborn health is often an area where they are overlooked or receive biased care. This bias leads to dangerous and sometimes deadly outcomes and I want to be a part of ending that. I absolutely love caring for babies and being a part of so many different birth stories. I’m so excited to help care for you and your baby and for the opportunity to be a part of your birth team!

Moenasia Martin-Pounds
RN, Birth Assistant
Hello, my name is Moenasia, and I am very excited about joining the team. I am an RN at a local birth center. I have always had a love for nursing since I was a little girl. However, I wanted to ensure I worked in a field that truly helped. Learning and experiencing the health disparities that affect women and minorities really sparked my interest. I was really affected by the black maternal mortality rate. I chose to work in a community hospital setting in hopes of making women feel safe and heard while bringing new life into the world. I hope to bring that energy with me to homebirth and continue to learn how to empower the birth experience.
